The people in the Early Cycladic Period used horses for transportation and working their lands. For them, the horse represented power, bravery and agility. Homer mentioned horses in his work, the Iliad; while Xenophon praised horses and horsemen. Today, the horse remains an object of admiration and an important part in many sports. This masterful reproduction of the horse sculpture sits atop a white marble base. The original horse head is displayed in the Museum of Acropolis in Athens, Greece.
